February Fun: Fraser's 2nd Annual Fire + Ice Festival

Fraser hosted its first Fire + Ice Festival last February, and it was such a fan-favorite that they are making it a tradition. This year's 2nd Annual Fire + Ice Festival is turning it up a notch by coupling it with the Colorado State Snow Sculpting Festival. The Town of Fraser and Fraser's Public Arts Committee put on the party, complete with a DJ, hot chocolate, light sticks, food trucks, an epic bonfire paying homage to Christmas trees of yore, and fireworks to top it all off. Head over to the Lion's Ponds by Safeway Saturday, February 11th between 4 and 8pm for Fraser's mid-winter festivities.

The Stats Speak: 2022 Brought Continued Growth in Property Value Along with Encouragement for Buyers

It's likely we've all settled into a state of not knowing in some aspects of our lives. The pandemic prepared us for expecting volatility, pivoting, and embracing the question mark. While real estate values increased significantly and (for most) surprisingly throughout the pandemic, 2022 sang a somewhat different tune. Across the board, Grand County average sales prices increased from 2021 to 2022. As most of us know, the rise in mortgage interest rates, specifically in the second half of the year, caused the market to adjust and settle into a more sustainable growth pattern. Property value growth slowed, and potential buyers and sellers could…

Skiers' Best Friends: Avalanche Rescue Dogs Trained to Save Lives

We've probably all tried our hand at the basic dog "tricks" at some point: sit, shake, roll over, and, if we're feeling ambitious, the 360 show stopper. And if you spend much time on Grand County trails, you've likely noticed that dogs and outdoor recreation go hand in hand. Avalanche rescue dogs and their handlers couple dogs' love of play in nature and their inherent trainability to turn man's best friend into "skier's best friend." And getting your dog to roll over pales in comparison to what they can do!

There's no question that backcountry riding poses risks--avalanches are a known danger in ski country. When a skier or rider has been buried in an avalanche, dog response time and…
