Winter Park Resort Offers So Much More than Skiing - Be Sure to Take Advantage of Summer at the Base!

We've said it once; we'll say it again - people come to Winter Park for the winters and stay for the summers! Given its name, it's easy to think of Winter Park, especially Winter Park Resort, as a snow-season destination. If you're not already in on the secret that is the Fraser Valley in the summertime, you're missing out on some of the best this county has to offer!

Hundreds of miles of cross-country mountain bike trails? Check. A world-class downhill mountain bike park? Check. High-mountain lakes and rivers for days? Check. Whether you're hiking, biking, fishing, spending a day on the lake, or curled up in a hammock in the woods with a good book, Grand County's cool summer weather and wealth of activities this time of year make it easy to see why people stay for the summers!

THE VILLAGE AT WINTER PARK RESORT

One of our favorite family-friendly go-to activities in summertime is exploring the base of Winter Park Resort. The Village restaurants and shops are in full swing. It's train-themed playground, oversized outdoor musical instruments for passerby try their hand at, and luscious green open space make it easy to take advantage of the outdoors between shopping or enjoying a meal. Not hungry for a full meal but in the mood for a sweet treat? Grab an ice cream at Waffle Cabin or Goody's Mountain Creperie!

BASE ACTIVITIES

After a dear friend turned me on to uphill skiing several years ago, I thought, "How have I been missing this for all these years?!" You'll likely feel the same about the activities offered at the base of Winter Park Resort if you haven't had the opportunity to experience them. All ages can enjoy the mini golf, climbing wall, and Colorado's longest alpine slide (set to be totally updated this fall!). Two ropes challenge courses are also set up for kids to enjoy. Looking for a more relaxing afternoon? Grab a drink and a snack, find some shade, and let the kids play!

MOUNTAINTOP HAPPY HOUR

Once the base activities close up for the day, hop on the gondola on Fridays and Saturdays for happy hour up at Sunspot Mountaintop Lodge. Sit outside, soak in the views of the Continental Divide, and enjoy live music on Saturdays (4:30-6:30pm). Looking for a little more adventure? Skip the gondola ride and hike about four miles up Ute Trail from the base of the resort! With almost 1,600 feet of elevation gain, you'll definitely be thirsty when you get to the top!

Gondola rides are free with Trestle Bike Park and base activities season and day passes, or you can snag a day pass if you're just riding the gondola.
