"Summer Starts Sooner" this Memorial Day with Early Openings, Live Outdoor Music + Special Events Kicking off the Summer Season

Aside from a handful of spring snowstorms, it’s felt like patio-sitting summertime for longer than usual this spring, thanks to a relatively dry, warm winter. Early-season trails have been hike and bike ready since March, the sun has been shining, aspens are already budding, and wildflowers are even starting to pop. So it definitely feels like TIME to kick off summer here in the mountains!

Grand County summers are as good as it gets: from exploring the three lakes region and soaking in the old-school charm of Grand Lake’s boardwalk, to hopping on hundreds of miles of singletrack, catching live outdoor music, golfing our…

From Cheshire Cat Grins to Cannonball Bumps: My Favorite Names on the Winter Park Trail Map

What’s in a name? If you’ve skied Winter Park Resort, you’ve likely noticed that the names of the ski runs are (quite literally) all over the map. From Jabberwocky to Derailer to Balch, there’s a method to the madness - and they make for great lift conversations!

From runs in the Eagle Wind Territory paying homage to the Indigenous land the resort sits on, to silly, tongue-in-cheek names like Drunken Frenchman, to a host of runs inspired by Alice in Wonderland, there’s no shortage of names to talk about and speculate on their roots. At Winter Park, a run name might have come from a founder’s whim, have grown organically from ski patrol or die-hard skiers,…

You may have noticed a flurry of activity and construction as you pull into downtown Winter Park these past few years, along with some homes that might have you thinking, "I'd love to soak in the sunset on one of those rooftop decks!" Build more. Enter: ROAM.

The ROAM community is creating new opportunities to live close to the heart of town. It runs along the Fraser River on the east side of Highway 40, giving homeowners easy access to…

No Pain, No Jane: Celebrating 50 Years of Skiing + Riding Winter Park's "Wild Side"

I’m a firm believer that every day in the mountains is worth celebrating. I never want to take for granted the alpenglow over snow-capped peaks, the view from the top of a summit, the ability to hop on trails right out my back door, or the slower pace of life. But this year, there's even more to celebrate here in Winter Park: Mary Jane’s 50th birthday!

Winter Park Resort’s Mary Jane territory ( “the Jane side”) is known for its steep, deep, and raw terrain. Largely ungroomed, the trails on the Jane develop some of the best moguls around. Couple those bumps with the steep pitch and it’s easy to see why the “No Pain, No Jane” slogan rings true. And if you spend a…

Winter Park Resort Ups Its Game with 37 Million Dollar Investment in Snowmaking Capacity

Winter Park Resort kicked off the ski season on Halloween this year, tying its 2022–23 season record for earliest opening day since its inaugural season in 1940. With a late start to the snowy season, the resort’s $37 million investment in snowmaking capacity is clearly already paying off! After a relatively dry fall, the hopes of opening before Thanksgiving would’ve been dashed without a big push to build snow coverage as soon as the temps dropped low enough. They started blowing snow the night of October 16, covering enough ground for the lifts to start turning on October 31.

The investment in an upgraded system (that more than doubled the volume of water…
