Grand Huts Association is Committed to Creating an Eco-Friendly Hut System in Grand County

If you've ever hiked up from the Second Creek Trailhead to the Continental Divide, you know the gem that is the Broome Hut. A few switchbacks up the pass from Winter Park and the first of a master-planned, trail-connected hut system spanning from Berthoud to Grand Lake, the "hut" moniker doesn't fully do the Broome Hut justice. At 1,800 square feet, the structure can accommodate up to 16 people overnight and offers a separate daytime pit stop for hikers. Created with sustainability in mind, it's solar panels, compost toilets, and pellet stove make the Broome Hut a mountain haven that can last for years to come with minimal impact on the natural beauty that…

Grand County Goes Big for the 4th of July!

The quintessential summer holiday is best celebrated in the ideal summer location--the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in what, in our opinion, is one of the best mountain communities around. Simply being up in the mountains with the cooler air and opportunity to play outside might be your idea of the perfect 4th. From riding the hundreds of miles of mountain biking trails, hiking around lakes or to the top of peaks, heading out for an afternoon on the boat, rafting a river, fishing some of Grand County's gold medal waters, playing at Winter Park Resort's base, or taking laps at Trestle, it's one of the best places to be this time of year.

And it's definitely worth making a pit stop between your outdoor…

  2. The qualifying senior must be the owner of the property, and must have held this status for at least ten consecutive years before January 1.

Take Advantage of 40+ Miles of Gravity-Fed Trails at Trestle Bike Park this Summer!

Winter Park Resort is more than a ski destination. In summer, the mountain transforms into a downhill biking mecca when Trestle, the United States' largest full-service downhill bike park right here in our little town of Winter Park, opens up for the season. The old "earn your turns" expression takes a backseat as bikers take advantage of the gondola and lift rides up to hop on the adrenaline-fueled descents ending at the resort's base. From smoother, wider trails designed for the beginner downhill rider to "expert only" trails with steep terrain and jumps for days, the Trestle trail crew has created something for everyone.

The bike park opened its first trail,…

Winter Park's Newest Small Business, South + West Provisions Will Turn Your Charcuterie Game up a Notch!

I recently planned a birthday celebration for a friend: pickleball and apps at Wolf Park post a quick mountain bike on the Phases. Does springtime in the mountains get any sweeter? But timing got away from me as the elaborate charcuterie I'd hoped to bring didn't seem to fabricate itself. Enter: South + West Provisions. This new addition to downtown Winter Park brings the gourmet après ski, happy hour, game-day food, workshop and private event-provider scene to the heart of town.

We love how the owners of South + West, mother-daughter duo Rachel Thackston and Jordin Fletcher, have created their own niche. Originally from Georgia and now at…
