Friends of Berthoud Pass Promotes Safety, Access + Environmental Stewardship for Backcountry Enthusiasts 


It's no secret that Berthoud Pass is a backcountry enthusiast playground. Skiers as far back as the 1920s discovered the the cold, light, and deep snow "the pass" is known for. Sitting in a sweet spot that attracts deep snowpack, benefiting from both northwest flow and upslope storms, Berthoud quickly became a skiing mecca after word got out. It wasn't long before a group of volunteers installed the first rope tow system in 1937, making Berthoud Pass Colorado's first formalized ski area. The H.O.P.E Fund is Dedicated to Supporting Mental Health here in Grand County 


The need for mental health awareness, resources, and access in Grand County has long been evident. While our community and its number of full-time residents has grown in the past few years, we still face challenges that come with living in a rural community, including limited resources and funding to support mental health and substance abuse. 

The H.O.P.E. Grand Huts Association is Committed to Creating an Eco-Friendly Hut System in Grand County

If you've ever hiked up from the Second Creek Trailhead to the Continental Divide, you know the gem that is the Broome Hut. Did you know...Colorado offers a property tax exemption for seniors? 

With many property owners taking a renewed interest in property taxes after the recent valuation we thought it was relevant to share the resources available to seniors (65 or older) as well as disabled veterans around property taxes.

There are three requirements to qualify:

  1. The qualifying senior must have reached the age of 65 by January 1 of the qualifying year.
  2. The qualifying senior must be the owner of the property, and must have held this status for at least ten consecutive years before January 1.
  3. The qualifying senior must use the property as their primary residence and must have done so for at least ten consecutive years before January 1.
