Gravity Haus Winter Park: Guest House & Community Hub for Gathering, Working, Exercising, and Adventuring
Driving through Winter Park on Highway 40 might leave you doing a double take and asking yourself, "Was that there before?" New construction and businesses have been popping up on our little "Main Street" these past few years, and it is sometimes hard to keep up with! From residences to boutiques to restaurants, we are grateful for the variety offered in such a small town. We especially appreciate when fresh life and vision is breathed into old spaces. Gravity Haus Winter Park is one such space, having renovated the old Sundowner Motel and reopened as a guest house, cafe, co-working space, and fitness center. This new addition has been welcomed by locals and visitors alike.
Gravity Haus Winter Park is the newest of several locations, joining those in Breckenridge, Vail, and Truckee-Tahoe. Gravity Haus' self-proclaimed mission is to "create a globally conscious community for the modern adventurer." Community, adventure, and sustainability are at the heart of everything they do. Their unique model offers memberships with packages that give benefits across locations: hotel stay savings, access to co-working spaces, complimentary fitness classes and community experiences, discounts on food and drink, and gear rentals are a few of the perks of membership.
STAY
The 38 renovated guest rooms are a welcoming place to land after a long day adventuring or driving. With a clean, modern look, Gravity Haus Winter Park makes excellent use of the space, offering sleeping arrangements that fit a variety of needs: rooms consist of varying combinations of king beds, twins, trundles, and bunks with premium, natural mattresses and linens. We love their commitment to sustainability: their intentionality with eco-friendly products and amenities is clear. Soak in the hot tub or join a fitness class, complimentary with your stay. Members save up to 50% off lodging, but non-members are welcome to book a room as well. And feel free to bring your pup! They welcome your furry friends--they even take their picture for the doggy "guest book" and provide dog beds, bowls, and treats for your stay. The team at Gravity Haus truly wants to make your visit as welcoming as possible, and we're grateful for their lodging options in the heart of Winter Park!
EAT & DRINK
You'll recognize Unravel Café as you walk or drive by, as it is the face of Gravity Haus with a hard-to-miss snow cabana sitting outside near it's patio and fire pit. Both their indoor and outdoor spaces are inviting and foster a sense of community and home. Grab some of their zero-emission, zero-waste in-house roasted coffee in a sustainable glass jar, a cocktail from their full bar, or a quick bite (think sandwiches, soups, salads, smoothies, appetizer spreads). This is a great après ski stop--now that the weather is warming up, you can even enjoy your après out on the patio!
CO-WORKING SPACE
The co-working space, StarterHaus, is up the stairs from the café, with fiber optic internet, plenty of space to work remotely, and fresh coffee waiting for you. Locals capitalize on this new space to get out of the home office, and travelers use it to squeeze in work between adventures. Individual work spaces, meeting areas, and conference rooms make it a versatile space. The old Sundowner Motel sign greets you as you walk up the stairs, paying homage to the history of the building. Open 6am-6pm, members can use it at their leisure. Membership also provides access to co-working space in Vail, Breck, and Denver.
GEAR
Need a paddle board? Want to try out a different ski set up? Looking to rent a mountain bike? Haus Quiver is a unique model for renting and using gear. Members pay a monthly fee and have unlimited access to gear rentals. If you're not sure you're ready to invest in a full setup, just want to give something a try, or have a friend in town who needs some gear to join you on your adventure, Haus Quiver is a great way to access what you need without investing in ownership. Summer or winter, they have a variety of options with high-quality brands.
FITNESS
Dryland Fitness is not just a gym--the team at Dryland works to create a community of people working together to care for their health and each other. If you frequent the classes, you'll notice the same faces over and over again, and you'll likely become one of them. The community vibe is evident, and the instruction is top-notch. From high intensity interval workouts to yoga, you can find a class (or classes!) that you'll love whether you live in the county full-time, are here part-time, or are just visiting. Dryland offers open gym times as well as group classes, complimentary to lodging guests and members. But, don't worry, non-members can purchase a day pass to get in on the action! They even host events like Workout and Whiskey or Mini Keg and Bells, pairing your workout with post-class drinks and socializing. Check out their schedule and join a class. You'll likely see me there!
EXPERIENCES
At their heart of the Gravity Haus mission lies creating a community of adventurers, and Gravity Haus' "experiences" serve to meet that goal. Gather with other Gravity Haus members for events like wine tasting, backcountry skiing, or a hut trip. Check out the upcoming events if you'd like to connect with this new community or try something new in a welcoming setting.
SEE YOU THERE?
All that to say, we are grateful to have Gravity Haus Winter Park join our community. Their outside-of-the-box business model coupled with their ability to connect people in unique ways is a welcome addition, and we hope you get a chance to check it out!
