Small-town Rodeos at Their Finest: The High Country Stampede and Flying Heels Arena Do it Right!

Grand County, Colorado Rodeos

Pull on your boots and slide on your western hat: Grand County rodeos are ready for you every Saturday this summer! Designed to entertain all ages, these rodeos bring out the small-town charm and western roots of our little valley. Both the Flying Heels Arena in Granby and the High Country Stampede in Fraser run every Saturday night this summer, rain or shine. The Granby rodeo got its start in June and ends the last Saturday in July while the Fraser rodeo started mid-summer and runs until August 13th.

The High Country Stampede is celebrating its 39th rodeo season! This Fraser rodeo runs every Saturday starting July 2nd all the way through August 13th. Barrel racing, bull riding, roping, breakaway, sheep scrambling, bronc riding, and trick riding make this weekend event one worth marking on your calendars. And of course there's mutton bustin'--a rite of passage for many local kids!

Go hungry! Barbecue is served up weekly by Smoke: A Colorado BBQ Joint, and ice cream is provided by Charlie's Frozen Treat Shop. Grab some food, settle in, and breathe in the clean mountain air while cheering for some fabulous rodeo contestants and soaking in the beauty of the Fraser Valley!

Saturdays, June 4-July 30 + Labor Day weekend

Western BBQ – 6:00 – 9:00pm

Open Rodeo at 7:00pm

The Granby rodeo is the longest running rodeo series in the county and has been at its current location at the Flying Heels Arena just off Highway 40 since 1969. They have all the standard events as well as special events throughout the summer like Flintstone Gravel Belgian Team/Hitch, Shockwave's Trick and Fancy Riding Team, the famous Westernaires, the unique motorcycle barrel race, mounted shooting, mini broncs, and more! Support the local Rotary Club by purchasing concessions and enjoy them in the covered bleachers--the rain doesn't stop you from enjoying the show, and you might even get to see a rainbow over the hills and mountains surrounding this venue!

This year, Flying Heels Arena will host a Colorado Professional Rodeo Association event on Labor Day weekend to close out the rodeo season.

We hope you get a chance to enjoy one (or both) of the rodeos this summer!
