Tame Wellness Creatively Supports Mental Health and Addiction Recovery with Community Events, Resource Connection, and Individualized Services

Founded in 2021, Tame Wellness is a Fraser-based nonprofit committed to a clear vision: empower people with supportive community and sustainable tools to promote mental health and physical wellness.  They think outside-of-the-box when it comes to connecting with and caring for those with addiction and mental health issues. Their creative approach creates sober spaces that offer a safe setting for anyone who is recovering from addiction or wanting to cut back on drinking while still seeking out opportunities to socialize and enjoy our beautiful community.

Operating out of the belief that the opposite of addiction is connection, the team at Tame Wellness approaches mental health with "compassion and connection rather than shame and guilt."

EVENTS

A core component of their work is offering regular, open-to-anyone sober events that create connection that combats addiction. Their creative approach is evident in the variety of activities they plan. many of which capitalize on this beautiful place we get to call home. Hut trips, hikes, full-moon adventures, disc golfing, paddle boarding, skiing, smoking at Hot Sulphur Springs Resort, and more fill their calendar. They also offer art nights, talk groups, a free library, bowling nights, self-care nights, educational classes, workout buddies, game nights, yoga nidra, breathwork, and meditation nights. Challenges like their annual "Dry January" are regular events that promote sober activities and give people a common goal within a supportive community. Check out their monthly schedule here.

ONE-ON-ONES

Tame operates under the belief that recovery is not done alone and offer individualized support with free, one-on-one sessions. Anyone is welcome to schedule private meetings to connect, set achievable goals, identify obstacles, and find solutions utilizing resources and proven techniques to create and sustain positive change. The reflective, exploratory, and strategic sessions (note: not counseling/therapy) are available on Friday evenings. Those who are interested can text 480.253.2158 to schedule an appointment.

RESOURCES

Tame also helps connect people with local resources for mental health addiction support. They partner with Grand Foundation’s HOPE Fund and use the same resources on the Building HOPE Grand website to help people find the support they need right here in Grand County, from counseling to rehabilitation to withdrawal management.

PARADISE PARADOX

Tame’s executive director is featured in a film that addresses the mental health crisis affecting America’s mountain towns and the innovative solutions being developed in response. Produced by Olympic ski racer Bode Miller and Emmy Award-winning impact sports filmmaker Brett Rapkin, The Paradise Paradox opens the conversation in hopes of melting away stigmas and making progress for mountain towns like ours. Tame is at the heart of the work the film works to do and promote.
