Fraser's "The Drop" Offers Convenient, Year-Round Pay-As-You-Throw Trash + Free Recycling
Whether you call Grand County home year-round or part-time, The Drop just might be the solution for your trash and recycling needs here in the Fraser Valley. The Fraser Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) program incentivizes recycling while also giving homeowners and visitors flexibility with waste disposal. We call that a win-win! If weekly trash pick up services through companies like Ranch Creek Waste, The Trash Company, and Waste Management aren't ideal for your situation, The Drop offers this welcome alternative. And by offering free single-stream recycling, they reduce quantities of trash going to the landfill AND save you money - the less you throw away and the more you recycle, the more you save!
The initiative is a realized vision of The Town of Fraser and its vision for sustainability and lowering greenhouse gases. They partnered with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to build the facility and now manage its operations. Opened for public use in summer of 2018, The Drop continues to grow in popularity.
TRASH
You can pick up the official "The Drop" 40-gallon yellow trash bags (complete with a map to the facility conveniently printed on each one) all over town. Stop in Safeway, Murdoch’s, Fraser Ace Hardware, Fraser/Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, Fraser Town Hall, Winter Park Town Hall, and The Drop (during open hours) to grab as many as you need. Offered in packages of five or individually, bags run $8.50 each and are good until you're ready to use them!
RECYCLING
Recycling is free of charge for household/residential use. But since the facility is run on PAYT trash bag purchases, donations are appreciated (but not required!) for recycling.
The single-stream recycling maximizes user efficiency and makes recycling as easy as it gets. No need to sort - just bring the approved items and add them to the mixed recycling container.
